The Victorian Government is committed to providing international students with a high-quality
education, pathways to higher education and a genuine opportunity to thrive and succeed. With a
choice of nearly 200 accredited primary and secondary schools, the windows of opportunity for you
are endless at Victorian government schools.
Dedicated international student
The welfare of international students is
important at Victorian government schools.
Each secondary school has an International
Student Coordinator to meet the individual
needs of international students. The
International Student Coordinator will be
there to provide students with 24-hour
support from the time of arrival at
Melbourne airport right up until the final
day at secondary school.
Live with an Australian family
Arriving in a foreign country can make for
challenges with settling in and learning a
new language. For a young person away
from their own family, a homestay family is
the ideal way to ensure students feel that
they belong, experience how the locals live
and accelerate English language learning.
Many international students find that their
homestay is the defining experience of their
time in Victoria.
The Victorian school education system is characterised by
vibrant and dynamic learning environments, innovative teaching
practices, a diverse curriculum and an internationally recognised
qualification — the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).
Victorian government schools prepare
students to engage and thrive in a
globalised world. Victoria is one of the most
multicultural states in Australia and home
to people from more than 200 different
countries who speak over 230 different
languages and dialects. In fact, one in four
Victorians was born outside Australia. As
such, international students are warmly
welcomed and valued at our schools, where
they are well supported to achieve their
academic goals and strongly supported as
part of the school and local community.
A quality pathway to higher education
Quality is the number one reason why
international students and their families
select Victorian government schools as their
destination of choice. Victoria’s leading
school education system, classroom facilities,
welfare support and English language
facilities make it one of the world’s best
education destinations. Victoria is also home
to some of Australia’s world-class universities.
It is these combined intellectual assets that
have built Victoria’s reputation as a global
centre of excellence in education.
International students at Victorian
government schools achieve academic and
co-curricular success and many go on to
study at Melbourne’s world-class universities.
